Cataloochee Valley Elk Information

Most elk are located in the Cataloochee Valley area in the southeastern section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  The elk in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and on Cherokee Tribal Lands are Manitoban elk that were transplated from ALberta, Canada.  The best time to see elk is early morning and later afternoon.  Always observe elk from a distance, using binoculars or a spotting scope to view up-close.  If the elk becomes alert or nervous and begins to move away - you are too close!
